Brazil seeks more bilateral trade

Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior held a meeting with Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir at its industrial headquarters-2 in Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Sunday to discuss ways of boosting bilateral trade.

Speaking on the occasion, Shafiat Sobhan said Bashundhara Group would like to boost business with Brazil and seek support from the ambassador in this regard.

He apprised the ambassador of Bashundhara Group and its engagement in different fields.

Bashundhara Group has reached the climax of its success and become a leading business conglomerate thanks to its strong management, hardworking team and system, Shafiat Sobhan mentioned.

He said Bashundhara cement, writing paper, tissue paper, napkin, LP gas, food and beverage — all products are dominating market by dint of their quality and strong chain of distribution across the country.

The Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman expressed intention to establish a heavy truck assembly plant jointly with Brazil.

“If any Brazilian company comes forward, we would like to set up heavy truck assembly plant jointly in Bangladesh,” he said, adding that they also want to work in aviation section.

“We are thinking about boosting business with Brazil. Our economy is growing.

Now, we can exchange ideas with the countries like Brazil.”

In response, the ambassador said he will take necessary steps and extend all-out support.

“I will take necessary steps to create trade facility. I will arrange a meeting between businessmen of Bangladesh and Brazil so that they can seek new avenues,” he added.

Acting Editor of the daily sun Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Md Mustafizur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, Md Abdus Shukur, Head of Division (Supply Chain) of Sector- A of the Group, and other high-ups were present.

Mustafizur Rahman said Brazilian accessories are being used for machines in Bashundhara paper mills. He appreciated quality of Brazilian product.

He also said he wants to import a huge quantity of pulps from Brazil at an affordable cost for Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd (BPML).

Abdus Shukur said Bashundhara Group is going to establish a sugar refinery plant and it likes to import raw sugar from Brazil.

Bashundhara Group officials sought assistance from the ambassador. They underscored the need for contacting the Brazilian companies and partners directly without a third party and reducing double taxation.

Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir invited the ambassador to visit the units and concerns of the Bashundhara Group.
